What is slacking all about?

Let’s start with what slacking is NOT.

  • Slacking is not having no life.
  • Slacking is not having no job.
  • Slacking is not being a bum.
  • Slacking is not being a loser.
  • Slacking is not being incompetent.

So what is slacking then?

Slacking is the art of doing incredible little, while making it appear that you are doing a lot. At the very least, a slacker should appear to be doing a satisfactory amount of work.

Slacking is also the art of making people feel good about having you around, rather than about what you can do for them. The more you are loved, the less you have to do.

Who is this site for?

The skills and techniques described on this site are geared towards people in professional job situations. Do you work in front of a computer all day? In your office or cubicle? Are you just another cog in the machine?

Furthermore, this site is geared towards people that are overqualified and under challenged. You are probably capable of far more than you are required, and what you are required to do does not motivate you. You are bored with your job, and every minute that you keep working feels like one more drop taken away from your soul.

Where does this leave you?

You aren’t inspired by your job, but you stay anyway. maybe the money is good, maybe you have no idea what you would rather do instead. You could leave, and find another job, and you could end up in exactly the same situation 6 months later.

The alternative is to slack. Do the minimum work that you have to to not get fired. Give the appearance that you are a diligent worker. Make people like having you around, and succeed while doing next to nothing.
